It happened again

and again and again 

when will this stop? 

when will blood not be shed? 

the shot rang out ten 

and they say it’s defense 

but from our eyes its execution

the nation is tired  

the nation is angry 

deep within the ashes rises a strong fire within us 

it is ignited by anger 

it is ignited by pain 

it is ignited by the desire for peace 

it is ignited by the desire for freedom 

it is ignited by the desire of hope 

that maybe 

just maybe 

one day 

we can have the freedom we truly deserve 

we do it for the ones whose lives were lost

we do it for the voices that can’t speak up 

we will continue to fight and continue to bring justice to light 

because we too have a right 

a right to protest because what is happening now is inhumane 

we too can put our foot down because enough is enough 

no matter how hard they try to bring us down and strip away our rights 

it won’t work 

because at the end of the day 

still, we stand
