For many, Valentine’s Day means indulging in a romantic comedy and shedding a tear or two over a box of chocolates. For me, that quintessential movie is Valentine’s Day, directed by Garry Marshall.

Released in 2010, this film boasts a star-studded cast, with names like Julia Roberts, Jamie Foxx, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Alba, among others.

We even get a cameo from the one and only Taylor Swift, playing a spunky and ditsy blonde named Felicia in love with Willy, who is played by none other than Taylor Lautner

Marshall, the director, has an impressive filmography, including classics like “A League of Their Own” and “Pretty Woman.” His timeless works continue to resonate across generations.

“Valentine’s Day” serves as a love letter to traditional romantic comedies while also delving into the complexities and realities of the holiday. The film’s structure revolves around numerous couples and individual characters whose stories unfold from the morning of Feb. 14 to midnight.

From best friends on the verge of romance to unexpected connections on an airplane, the film explores various romantic tropes with humor and heart.

What makes this film special is its diverse array of characters, ensuring that viewers of all perspectives can find themselves represented on screen. From best friends on the verge of romance to unexpected connections on an airplane, the film explores various romantic tropes with humor and heart.

“Valentine’s Day” is just plain fun. While many films in the genre take themselves seriously, this one maintains a lighthearted and playful tone, offering a refreshing departure from the typical tearjerkers associated with the holiday.

Sometimes, a movie becomes special because of the memories we associate with it. This movie is far from critically acclaimed–it has an 18 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes–but it will always have a special place in my heart because of the first time I saw it.

I was sitting in the movie theater at age 8 on Valentine’s Day with my mom. I was ready to watch the film for Taylor Swift’s cameo, and she was ready to see Patrick Dempsey. Even though most if not all of the jokes flew over my head, I loved it, and I had the best time watching it with someone who I love so much, my forever Valentine.

Now, every year on Valentine’s Day, I watch the movie with my mom, and I look forward to it every year. As I got older, the jokes finally hit me and they’re funny and haven’t aged poorly. And I can appreciate the actors more for the other work I’ve seen them in.

What rom-com captures the true spirit of Valentine’s Day for you?
