My dream is modeling, but it’s not a strong career choice so I’m not choosing modeling as my major. It can be a minor. I chose marketing as my major because I could have jobs like selling products. My support system is my mom, dad, brother–and obviously my new best friend. They’re in my life because if I feel depressed they will help me and stand by me. I’m glad that at least I have friends because in high school I had no friends. I ate lunch alone. You need the right people in your life. I wrote a letter to my crush and it was thrown away. So that made me depressed for like nine months and I am still sad. Instead, I’m going to write a letter to my mom and tell her thank you for being supportive.

I am currently majoring in computer science because my dad taught me to code at his company. I saw him work everyday. I was inspired by him. He taught me everything about computers. My older sister has the same major and she inspired me a lot–so many opportunities and scholarships. I have five siblings, my dog, my parents, and my best friends as part of my support system. I lived in Nigeria for a while, but I moved here and my best friends in Nigeria motivate me. I grew up in a large family, so I can’t be sad, because if I’m sad, my siblings are always there to pick me up. My sisters help me with my math homework and essays. My dog provides emotional support. And my friends in Nigeria help me because moving to a new country and living somewhere different is not easy. If I could write a letter to someone I love, I would write to my primary school phonetics teacher in Nigeria. Her name was Miss Ella. She was the best. She really helped me with English. I would also write a letter to my French teacher. Unfortunately, she passed away. Her name was Miss Judith. She recommended me for a French exam scholarship.

I study nursing because I had a lot of family experiences that made me want to change the viewpoint of healthcare. I am most proud of having my biological mom and my aunt see me walk across the stage at high school graduation in May of last year. It felt good. I’m the only one out of all my siblings who is actually going to college right now. My support system includes my best friend and my biological mom because I only allow them to have their energy in my life. I would write to my late father who passed away when I was three. I’d write to him that I’m not on the streets. I’m actually here making my life. I think he’d receive that as he taught me well and I’m his daughter.

My major is criminal justice. I wanted to go into acting but if I really do spend money to go to college, I would rather have a backup plan. I’ve always been good at investigating, picking up evidence, reflecting and drawing conclusions from it. I’ve always liked the aspect of helping other people out. I hope I go into the FBI later on. I want to be a profiler, someone who profiles different suspects and finds patterns in their crimes. My parents are part of my support system with the criminal justice stuff. They weren’t really keen on my interest in the arts. They’re very on board with my major, but they do find it a little bit dangerous. My friends are also into art, but they understand that I found a different major. I narrowed down my support system to include people who would listen to me. My friends and I comfort each other. We have a lot in common like age, ethnicity, and interest. My family will support me no matter what, but they just want me to focus on criminal justice. As my last resort, I could totally see myself going into the FBI and helping people that way. I would write a letter to my mom and tell her she’s the only person I really have. It’s very hard for me to tell people that I love them, especially with that deep connection. There’s only one or two other people I’ve had that really deep eye to eye, soul-connecting experience with, but my mom is definitely one of those people. She gave me life. No matter what, she will always be my mom, and I will always be her daughter.
